A plate of six grilled lamb chops comes to the table with a sauce I've never seen used for this purpose. Garam masala is an Indian spice mixture widely used in making curries. (A can of it also appears on the cover of the first edition of my cookbook--a mistake.) It's a wonderful flavor in ts place, but when I read the menu description it sounded like a can't miss combination. It lived up to that projection, and is one of the best dishes I've ever had at the 1832 plantation in Covington. It's also one of the best treatments of lamb chops I've encountered, too. I hope they leave it on the menu permanently.

Annadele Plantation. Covington: 71518 Chestnut St. 985-809-7669.

We find this dish to be among the 500 best in New Orleans area restaurants.
