Mussels With Chorizo @ Mondo
Steamed mussels cooked with the hot Latin American sausage called chorizo first appeared on local menus about ten years ago. Suddenly, a handful of restaurants featured it. Just as suddenly, the dish disappeared. Of the survivors the best is Susan Spicer's version at Mondo. The two main ingredients sound unlikely to be together, but the combination is brilliant. The broth is doused with a little sherry, which may be the genius touch. Ask before ordering whether the mussels are of decent size. It's the nature of mussels for them to have a wide range of size. The little ones are unsatisfying. [caption id="attachment_18953" align="alignnone" width="400"] Mondo's dining room.[/caption]
