Two weeks ago a woman called the radio show to tell us her family travels here frequently because her husband is from here. It’s a family of six, so fancy restaurants are a real splurge. They went to Antoine’s to expose the four kids to a Grand Dame, but they came specifically for the Lunch Special to keep the bill down. She was so impressed with not only the food, and the deal, but the kids' reaction to it. They had never tasted anything like it. And the experience of being at a restaurant with that much history didn’t hurt either. She was thrilled.
We just don’t think there is a better way to get introduced to this world.
The Antoine's Spring special menu for $20.20 offers three choices for appetizers:
Three delicious chargrilled oysters with olive oil, herbs, and Romano cheese
A springtime salad with tender greens, pickled vegetables, and rice wine vinaigrette
Cream of Asparagus Soup with asparagus puree, lemon, and nutmeg cream
Entree choices are three equally interesting:
Grilled Speckled Trout with creamed leeks and sweet corn and potato pancake
Veal Francese is a pan-fried veal cutlet, mushroom wine sauce, and brown butter egg noodles
Chicken Wheatberry Salad has roasted chicken, bacon, wheatberries, arugula, tomatoes and citrus vinaigrette
Two dessert offerings are:
Pecan Bread Pudding with raisins and Rum sauce
Strawberry Angel Food Cake with fresh strawberries and whipped cream
