After less than a year in business, the Lakeview sports bar Azul has closed. This was a surprise to people in the industry, because of owner Danny Millan’s extensive experience, including his really successful run as owner of Cava. Deeper into Lakeview on Harrison, Cava was well-regarded by the neighborhood but was good enough to draw customers from other parts of the city. Danny’s decades of experience in local restaurants from Brennan’s and Jimmy Moran’s to Le Foret made him well-know and loved by generations of local diners, all of whom traveled wherever he was to see him.
Not so much with Azul. It just never caught on. Plagued with kitchen help issues from the beginning, he never seemed to be able to assemble a winning team There simply isn’t enough of a service or kitchen help base to supply all the restaurants here - it’s a constant complaint we hear from restaurateurs.
Though he is busty settling affairs regarding Azul, look for Danny to turn up somewhere soon. We can’t wait to see what he does next.
