Bar Frances is a quiet and smallish place uptown in a strip shopping center. The decor is a little sparse, and there is not much atmosphere. But the food here is exceptionally good. The chef is innovative and always has a great idea for some unique specials.
When a Reveillon menu came in for them, it was no surprise that it was diverse and interesting, thought the price seemed a little high. But only because of the no-frills vibe at Bar Frances. The food is sophisticated.
The first course offers a choice of Gnocchi with Goat, Collard Green Broth, Carrot, Ricotta, Meyer Lemon. Or, Tuna Carpaccio with Hot Mustard, Satsuma, Grains of Paradise, and Hearts of Palm. A third choice is Baked Taleggio, with Frenched Onion, Mushroom, and Crusty Bread. Second-course choices are two: a Raw Market Vegetable Salad with Baby Carrots, Candy Stripe Beets, Snow Peas, Baby Turnip, Romanesco, Radish, and Green Goddess. Or Pumpkin Soup with Pepitas, Sesame Seeds, Parsley, and Roasted Garlic. Entree choices are Cassoulet with Duck Confit, House Juniper Sausage, Fine Herbs and Bread Crumbs, or Acorn Squash, with Fennel, Spaghetti Squash, Brown Butter, and Capers, and Citrus, or Redfish with Cauliflower, Saffron, Purple Hull Peas, and Lump Crab Buerre Blanc. Dessert offers Strawberry Shortcake with Sweet Drop Biscuits, Aged Balsamic, and Mint, Or St. Andre Triple Cream with Lavash, Apples, and Local Honey.
