As big a story as it is on the dining beat, few words have been forthcoming on the progress of reconstruction. What is obvious is that the building is undergoing a massive restoration, I've seen three jumbo construction dumpsters come in, get filled with debris, and be swapped out for another one. Yesterday came word from Channel Six that a part of the second floor collapsed. That sounds alarming, but it's not unusual in buildings of this age. The former Brennan's location is old even by French Quarter standards, having been built before 1800. [/caption] In case you're just tuning in, the two remaining Brennan brothers found their company (whoever is in charge, which is not clear) in deep bankruptcy. New investors, including Ralph Brennan (cousin of the brothers) are rebuilding the choice location for. . . what? when? These matters are not yet known. Regardless, I see this as ultimately a good thing for everyone except Pip and Ted Brennan.
