Coolinating At Canal Street Grill

Among all the familiar favorites offering Coolinary menus this year are a few newcomers. The Canal Street Grill is the resurrection of the space that used to be Shula's Steakhouse, and a few other places before that. It's the restaurant of the J.W. Marriott Hotel (the former Meridien, on the uptown side of Canal), just recently reconfigured as a Creole-Cajun seafood bistro. The menu sounds good enough for the $35, three-course dinner:

Beet Salad
Blue cheese crouton, citrus crème fraiche, baby arugula
~or~

Cajun Crawfish Ravioli
Herb tomato coulis
~or~

Corn and Crab Chowder
~~~~~
Fried Soft Shell Crab
Mezuna greens, grilled white asparagus, sesame ginger reduction
~or~
Swordfish a la Plancha
Roasted sweet potato and heirloom tomato salsa
~~~~~

Chocolate Milk Tart
Walnut and Strawberries
~or~

Meyer Lemon Pana Cotta
Blueberry Compote

The Canal Street Grill is also offering a two-course Coolinary menu for $20, weekdays.
