The Cousins Salad dressing brand goes back a long way with The Food Show, so we are delighted to have them return with us as sponsors for the newly rebooted radio show. (Weekdays live 2-4 pm WGSO AM 990.)
Ally Cousins and her husband Jack worked side by side to bring us their delicious line of dressings until Jack unexpectedly passed away last summer. Now Ally carries on the business with daughter Taylor by her side, where the young lady has been since the original days at the farmer’s market.
Ally and Taylor called in to the radio show yesterday to share some tips on using their delicious dressings a lot of different ways in home cooking. These ladies are so similar that half the time we couldn’t tell their voices apart. Ally and Taylor have a Facebook show each Wednesday live at 6pm, where they demonstrate the recipes like the ones they mentioned on the show yesterday.
We talked about a chicken salad stuffed into a Creole tomato, tossed in their Creole Tomato dressing, using fresh basil and mozzarella cheese. And they suggested using their Olive Oil and Herb Vinaigrette to coat vegetables before grilling. But the most intriguing thing I heard was the marinating of steak in their blue cheese dressing before grilling it. Since blue cheese and steak is such a popular combo, we’re definitely going to give this one a try.
Ally also gave us a tip she got from a chef about marinating. If you’re pressed for time, stick the meat in the marinade and put it in the freezer, This greatly reduces the time and gives the same results.
It isn’t only cold things that they do with their dressings. Using them cooked with pasta, reducing them to a sort of flavored olive oil makes me want to think outside the box. Which is actually the whole reason we do that segment of the show. And I’m definitely going to tune into their show on their Facebook page.
Look for Cousins dressings in the produce section of the supermarket, and find them on Facebook this evening at 6pm.
