Dat Dog Opens In Marigny

New Orleans wasn't even close to being a hot dog town until Dat Dog re-invented the classic American tube steak. Now we're wild about dogs, with many restaurants following Dat Dog's lead. Indeed, the delightfully wacky-looking vendor is following its two successes (and Freret and Magazine Streets) with a third location. It opened yesterday (it would have overloaded the absurdity circuits had it opened on April Fools' Day) at the corner of Chartres and Frenchmen. Forget everything you know (or think you know) about frankfurters, wieners, or whatever you prefer to call them. Using a vast array of ingredients (including things like alligator and crawfish), Dat Dog wows the crowd with not only new hot dog flavors, but enormous sausages grilled to crunchy. They're served on lightly-charred sourdough buns a lot bigger and better than you're used to. The new Dat Dog (and the old ones) are open all day every day. Get ready to stand in line a little.
