Missing The Reunion. Turkey Gumbo And Fried Oysters.
I have a cold. It was ugly enough for me to cancel my main activity of the day: the annual luncheon of the Jesuit High School Class of 1968 at the Court Of Two Sisters. The Sazeracs I would inevitably imbibe might have helped, but I don't want to infect anyone else.
To allow me to fully implicate myself in this lunch, I asked Mary Ann to sit in for me on the radio. By showtime, however, the Coricidin I took had cleared my head and throat up so well that I just went ahead and did the show. People told me I didn't sound like I had a cold. Fortunately for them and me, the worst part of this plague would come during the next four days, when I would be absent from the airwaves.
We had a nice supper at home, beginning with the best batch of turkey-andouille gumbo Mary Ann ever made, followed by fried oyster poor boys. A good taste of New Orleans for Jude's girlfriend, who seems to be enjoying our unique culinary culture very much.
