Today is National Fried Chicken Day,, so eat some fried chicken. Even better, eat some fried chicken for a great cause.
The 4th annual Chicken Jam is today, hosted by the Al Copeland Foundation, starting at 2pm until 7 at the UNO Lakefront Arena. Besides Copeland’s delicious fried chicken, there will be red beans and rice and mac’n’cheese, a special Chicken Jam beer from Port Orleans Brewing, and a signature cocktail featuring Tito’s Vodka. And of course, cotton candy.
Face painting and inflatables will keep the kids happy, and the indoor venue will keep everyone happy, . . and cool. Local bands Bag of Donuts, Me & My Friends, and Superstar will provide background entertainment throughout.
Admission tickets are just $15 and food and drinks will be available for purchase.. There are VIP tickets for the VIP floor tent, which allows admission to the floor tent and food and drink, and the Tito’s Rockstar VIP ticket for $100, which includes admission to a pre-party from 1-3pm in the Spotlight Lounge, and access to the special VIP floor tent until 7.
Since the death of Al Copeland on Easter Sunday 2008, The Al Copeland Foundation has provided $1.9 million to the LSU Health Foundation to support innovative cancer research. Al Copeland died of Merkel Cell Carcinoma, a cancer with a 100 percent terminal rate. With this research in immunotherapy, treating cancer as a virus, clinical trials are very promising. Three patients are now cancer free, and the research has expanded to other more common cancers, like breast and colon cancer.
Al Copeland’s family promised the patriarch they would find a cure for the disease that took his life so prematurely at 64. They have worked tirelessly to fulfill that promise. 100 percent of the revenues from the Chicken Jam goes to that effort.
And you get delicious fried chicken and an afternoon of family fun.
