Where is the new Maple Street Patisserie And Bistro? It held its grand opening at noon today, while a classic spring thunderstorm complex flooded streets here and there around town. How many hours will be spent explaining that while the excellent original shop is indeed on Maple Street, the new location is at 8300 Earhart Blvd., two blocks up from Carrollton, sort of behind Ye Olde College Inn. The new place is an expansion upon the one that really is on Maple Street, which sells and serves breads, sandwiches, and pastries, all made in house. The new location continues those standards, while expanding into a lighter-style French bistro. Its tastemakers are the personable Chef Ziggy Cichowski and Chef Patricia-Ann Donohue. The premises are a renovated factory where, for a century or so, was the home of the American Chicle Company, a maker of chewing gum. I hope they have a gum machine. Both the original and the new shops are open for breakfast through lunch every day except Sunday. And as if this weren't confusing enough, a third iteration of the Patisserie--this time with "Deli" on the end of the name--is set to open shortly in the busiest restaurant block of Magazine Street within the coming week. All we need to go is get through the gullywashing rain.
