Fourth Of July Brings Another Middendorf's

One of the most welcome bits of local restaurant news this last year came out of nowhere. Literally. Horst and Karen Pfeifer announced from their Akers, Louisiana headquarters that their 85-year-old iconic eatery Middendorf’s was getting another outpost - this time in Slidell. Not only was this great news for Slidell, which for some reason continues to suffer a dearth of good restaurants, but because it means another Middendorf’s! Another chance to eat crispy light cornmeal battered catfish so impossibly thin it is almost a chip. Always hot, always golden brown, this is the standard by which fried things should be measured. Styles have changed since Middendorf’s opened its doors, and straight cornmeal is not the norm, but here is fried perfection regardless of personal tastes.

And it is fun. Fun for the whole family. Easy atmosphere, opportunities to enjoy both indoors and outdoors, Middendorf’s has it all. The new location is not on the water, just off the lake. But there is a pond close to the building, and sand pits for the kids and tiki huts for cooling off. And happy color everywhere.

They have chosen the perfect day for opening the new location in Slidell. Fourth of July. So next Thursday, the doors will open to another location of Middendorf’s and a new era begins. One that will bring good times to generations to come, just like its predecessor.

The new building is located to the right just off the 5 mile bridge from New Orleans, and at the end of Gause Blvd if you’re coming from the other way. Oak Harbor Exit 261 from I-10
