The Boy is back, and Mary Leigh is happy again. She and he set up a pasta-making operation on the kitchen counter. The recipe is that of Mario Batali. It uses three ingredients total: flour, eggs, and olive oil. No water? That's unusual. They don't have a pasta machine, so ML rolled out the pasta sheets by hand. They were suboptimally thick, but not as thick as I thought they'd be. The Boy made a cheese stuffing, and ML concocted her very good Bolognese sauce. They assembled and cut the pasta pillows by hand. No two were alike. The finished product was actually delicious. [/caption] Better yet, it took all night to make. The perfect thing for this young couple to do Despite that success, I am thinking about buying a pasta machine again. I have this thing about super-thin pasta, and you can't get that with a rolling pin. Unless your muscles are better than mine. My best culinary accomplishment today was indexing and reinstalling all 500 of the best restaurant dishes in New Orleans for the NOMenu.com website. It only took two ten-hour days. Now on to the top-twelve lists.
