Dining Diary

Monday, April 19. Lush. Camellia Cafe. Rain overnight--the first we've had in two weeks. What a spring we're having! The trees are filling in the few remaining gaps torn through them by the hurricane. The row of cypress trees I planted fifteen years ago are greener than I've ever seen them. Some specimens of a thorny vine that only grows in wet years is shooting up at the rate of a foot a day in the woods. It's lush.

I broke up an exceptionally long workday with lunch at the Camellia Café. As they were last week, the food and service are leagues ahead of what they were a couple of years ago, when I gave the place up for awhile. Red beans and rice, of course. The menu claims that they're made on premises, and I have no reason to doubt that. The Patton's hot sausage added to the excitement. This was twice as much food as I could finish. The waitress didn't even offer dessert.
