What? La Carreta Again?
The rain just keeps on coming, making it impossible for the second day for me to take my half-hour fitness walk. I suppose I get a pass, don't I?
Every Monday, I write a top-twelve list of some index of the dining scene. It always amazes me how long this takes, even when I'm updating a list I made a few years ago. Maybe especially then. How much things change!
The Marys wanted dinner, and they wouldn't wait until the radio show was over. I'd get there when I get there. Where? "Would you mind very much if we do La Carreta again?" Mary Ann asked. But we were just there a few days ago! And this from the woman who's always complaining that dining on the North Shore is just the same old stuff all the time!
Of course, I went. They were finished when I arrived, having downed a large boat of queso with chorizo. They even order the same dishes! For me, seared chicken with chipotle sauce on a salad. That left me wanting dessert, asking for the which I learned that they made sopaipillas here. Mexican beignets, with powdered sugar and honey. These are vastly better than I expected, and I ate all six.
I like La Carreta, but they need to look at their napkin program. The ones wrapping your utensils are too insubstantial to last, and getting more napkins is like asking for a pet bunny.
With the last hour before bedtime, I got up to 300 of the 500 Best Dishes loaded onto the computer. I wish I had an assistant. This is mind-numbing, and gives me unsettling dreams.
It's over three years since a day was missed in the Dining Diary. To browse through all of the entries since 2008, go here.
