Two Lists For Father's Day. Pontchartrain Poor Boy.
Still raining, although not nearly as much as over the weekend. It must have been dry indeed for the previous month, because even with something like four inches of downpour we have no standing water anywhere around the Cool Water Ranch.
I spent most of the morning compiling a list I could not have made a few years ago. Father's Day, which for most of its history has been if anything a slack day for restaurants, has suddenly become popular for dining.
In fact, I made two lists--one for lunch and brunch, the other for dinner. The first time I create such a list, it takes a long time. There is no central source of information--other than my own website--for who is even open on Father's Day, let along what they're serving or how good it is. Gotta dig it all up first-hand. Well, I'll be in good shape from now on.
Mary Ann was running around this morning, and called to see if I could do lunch. The Father's Day assignment had my time tight, so I asked for a roast beef poor boy instead. She picked the place, but a good one: Pontchartrain Poor Boys. Despite its not-very-visible location on LA 22, the place does an almost unbelievable business at lunch. In terms of customers per square foot, it rivals Mother's. The explanation is the excellence of the sandwich, which is in the top five or six locally.
After the radio show, I flopped onto the sofa for awhile, during which time Mary Ann flicked through the sitcoms she and ML are watching a lot of lately. I got to see my first episode of The King Of Queens. How is it that fat young guys are suddenly considered perfect for major roles on television and in movies?
