No Burn. Not Much Food, Either.
Kids are a great help with certain chores. . . until they get tired of them. After that, you'll never rope them in again. When we got our first lawn tractor Jude--who was about thirteen at the time--couldn't wait to climb on board to cut the grass. The novelty wore off, of course, when he got his driver's license for a real car. Right about that time, Mary Leigh took her turn on the tractor. Then she passed her driving test, and hasn't been seen on the vehicle since.
Time was when I would have asked either of the kids to build a bonfire, and they would jump right on it. I have a pile of stuff to burn, no time to do it, and needed to get it done while the winds were light and before another torrential rain wet down everything. I thought that this would be a project that ML and The Boy would have fun with.
Not a chance. It's still there, and it rained like hell last night.
I have marked Mondays as my day for austere eating, and that's what I did. Normal breakfast, pile of salad for lunch, slice of pizza for dinner. Period. It's easier to do when I stay at home instead of going in for the radio show.
