Progressive Trifocals. Mandina's.

We are now in Week Nine in my endeavor to get new glasses. The insurance company objected to making a new pair for me (the first was so off-kilter that I couldn't see anything) until I got a new examination. Optometrist #2 discovered that Optometrist #1 (in a different institution) gave a prescription which was wildly off in one eye. They corrected that and sent the order off. Two or three weeks, they said. Last time, that came to four weeks. That will amount to three months. Something wrong with this system.

Trout amandine.

I spooned up the last cup of Brennan's turtle soup for my lunch, then did the radio show. Mary Ann was having dinner with her sisters again tonight. My first thought for dinner was Shuck 'n' jive, the new seafood place in Mandeville. But I found them closed on Monday. I had a backup idea: Mandina's. I'm in the mood for some fish, and that's what I had: trout amandine. Big fillet, nicely done. That's a major specialty at Mandina's. A side order of red beans and rice (in lieu of fries--I have decided to give up frozen fries for the rest of my life) was nearly a full portion. But then, how much does it cost the restaurant to serve red beans? Caramel custard for dessert.

If this had been more than a year ago, I would have started with a martini. In fact, I would have thought about that martini all the way over. I seem to have lost that Pavlovian desire. It's a good thing.
