Muriel’s in Jackson Square is one of Tom’s favorites, and so very underrated. It flies under the radar, which is a pity because everything about it is excellent. From its skilled and charming owners to its unusual vibe, it does not get the attention it deserves. But it’s also really about the food, which is just great here.
The Reveillon is no exception to this. Four courses for $55, choices are a bit limited, but these choices are already difficult with just two. Try the Oyster Chowder with Fried Oysters, Oyster Cream, Leeks, Potato, Corn, and Applewood Smoked Bacon. Or a hearty slow-cooked Duck and Andouille Gumbo with Potato Salad. Second course choices are Satsuma Salad of Delicate Mixed Greens, Toasted Cashews, Vanilla Bean Vinaigrette, and Candied Red Onion. Or Sweet Potato Gnocchi with Tart Apple, Brown Butter, Sage, and Crispy Prosciutto. Third course is Pan Seared Flounder, Louisiana Shrimp, Mashed Potatoes, Haricot Vert, Wild Mushroom Velouté, or a Wood-Grilled Venison (pictured), Smoked Carrot Purée, Grilled Acorn Squash, and Port Wine and Currant Reduction Sauce. Desserts are a choice of White Chocolate and Candy Cane Mousse Cake, or Salted Caramel and Peanut Butter Torte.
