Mussels Mariniere @ La Crepe Nanou
The classic presentation of mussels in French bistros is for the bivalves to be cooked with a sloshy sauce of wine, herbs, onions, and the juices from the mussels. With fresh-cut pommes frites, piled on top of the mussels. An improvement can be made: get the fries on the side, to avoid their becoming soggy from the mussels' steam. Although the name of this great Uptown French cafe suggests dessert, Nanou's menu covers the entire range of bistro French cooking. You will not soon find better mussels.
