My Favorite Burgundy Producer
Domaine Cecile Tremblay. Please remember that name. I've just tasted her wines for the first time and--dare I say it?--in my opinion she is one of the most brilliant Burgundy producers I have tasted in a long time. Her wines have the perfect combination of power and finesse, with notes of bright cherry and some rustic grit.
See, what confuses a lot of people when they shop for the wines of Burgundy is not so much the village designation, (Puligny-Montrachet, Gevrey-Chambertin, Chablis) but the person or firm ("domaine") who makes the wine. That's where the price difference really comes in to play.
If you want to start drinking Burgundy, pay attention more to the domaine and not so much to the village. The domaine name is always somewhere on the label--usually at the bottom. Get to know the wines of a certain domaine, and remember the ones that most appeal to your personal taste.
I'm always happy to talk about this with anyone interested enough to ask!
