New Orleans-Cut Strip Steak @ Mr. John's Steakhouse
My nominee for Best Steak In Town is this USDA Prime, meticulously trimmed, thick, sizzling-in-butter masterpiece from the Italian-accented steakery on St. Charles Avenue. I've always liked this place, but they were the first to take me seriously when I said that an extra-thick sirloin strip cut into two pieces the size of filets mignon would unite all the best aspects of the strip and the filet. This is the New Orleans Cut. They put it on the verbal menu (in other words, you have to ask for it, preferably a few days ahead of time), but it's almost always available.
