[title type="h3"]Meril. Warehouse District: 424 Girod. 504-526-3745. [/title] Emeril's newest New Orleans restaurant Meril is hosting a Portuguese wine dinner tomorrow, Thursday, September 14. The Portuguese connection is in Emeril Lagasse's DNA; his family and the place in New England where he grew up has roots in Portugal. It's a four-course dinner with wines from Portugal. Other than the sweet red Ports that every wine drinker learns to love early in life, the dry wines of that country are not well known. Instead of a single wine's matching each course, the wines will be served in a family style. Meril's itself serves most of its menu according to that plan, so that should be interesting. The price is $70, inclusive of wines but with tax and tip extra. Call the restaurant at 594-526-3745. Here's the menu: Salt Cod Croquettes Shaved Iberico Ham Pao di Queijo Watermelon Octopus Salad Fried Chickpeas • Pickled Red Onion • Smoked Paprika Vinaigrette João Portugal Ramos “Lima” ’15 Loureiro (Vinho Verde, Portugal) Crawfish Pie Flatbread Shrimp & okra Mozambique Grilled Redfish Piperade WineTons de Duorum ’16 Viosinho, Vedelho, Arinto and Moscatel Blend (Duoro, Portugal) Morcella Shiitake mushrooms, baked egg, piquillo pepper Duck Confit Saffron basmati, peas & carrots Feijoada Black beans, citrus, farofa João Portugal Ramos “Vila Santa Loios” ’15 Aragónes, Trincadeira, and Caselão (Alentjo, Portugal) Outside Skirt Steak Sherry Peppercorn Cream Baked Gnocchi Wine: João Portugal Ramos “Ramos Reserva” ’14 Trincadeira, Aragónes, Syrah (Alentjo, Portugal)
