It's hard to imagine a better spot in New Orleans for a Christmas-time lunch or dinner than Canal Street at Chartres. There, the Palace Cafe occupies a building that, since the 1800s, was Werlein's music. Those of us old enough to remember shopping on Canal Street in the 1950s and before will find unusual nostalgia here. And a lot of good food from the wing of the Brennan family that also operates Dickie Brennan's Steakhouse, the Bourbon House, and Tableau. They get the idea of the Reveillon exactly.
