Chico, California-based Sierra Nevada Brewery is accepting short videos from couples who want to convince their beer-drinking peers that they will best represent the spirit of Prince Ludwig of Bavaria and his bride Princess Therese Saxony-Hildburghausen. Their wedding is the origin of the very first Oktoberfest.
Craft beer-loving couples should send a minute or less video to sierranevada.com, explaining why they are the right choice for such unique nuptials. The ceremony will be officiated at the Oktoberfest, in front of thousands, just like the original in Munich, Germany in 1810. Winners will receive two round-trip plane tickets to Chico, California, transportation to the hotel, a honeymoon suite before and after the wedding, and food and drink for 50 guests. Winners will be selected by a round of social media voting to five finalists, then a panel of judges.
Each year for Oktoberfest, Sierra Nevada partners with a German Brewery to create a signature beer for the fest. This year, 200-year-old family-owned Bitburger Brewery will bring together elements that have never left the walls of the brewery. Siegelhopfen, or “sealed hops “ complement the beer’s strong malt profile, and the flavors are blended with a custom yeast, another house ingredient gifted for the first time ever.
