Don't Pasta This Up

We became acquainted with celebrity chef Scott Conant in Los Angeles, where his west coast outpost of the Scarpetta franchise was too briefly located in the Montage Hotel in Beverly Hills. It was perhaps most famous for his nearly $30 plate of simple pomodoro and spaghetti. How good can this be? Well delicious, or it could be just the self-admitted sucker in me. What I love most about Scarpetta, besides everything, was the basket of breads on the table. Italian twists with salumi and cheese inside. Bread with cheese and sausages cannot be beat, at least to this Mary. Couple that with Italian cheese and a simple but incredible red sauce, and we are talking bliss.

Our own television celebrity chef Nina Compton of the wildly popular BAB’s and Compere Lapin worked for a time for Scott Conant at his Miami outpost of Scarpetta in The Fountainbleu Hotel there.

If you would like to try this simple afore-mentioned pomodoro, (and it sounds like maybe one of those breads in the basket), your chance is here. Tomorrow night at Bywater American Bistro she’ll be serving a three-course menu for $35, which includes the legendary Spaghetti Pomodoro, a Stromboli with soppressata and fontina (from the basket of breads I loved!!) and Soursop Tiramisu. Place orders on the website for pickup tomorrow night from 5-8pm. 2900 Chartres in the Rice Mills Lofts.
