Getting a restaurant open is such a project that even when things go perfectly the owners are engulfed in a whirlwind. When we hear a story about a restaurant opening just before some natural disaster or other catastrophes, it is heartbreaking.
Such is the case for Segnette’s Landing, a little place on the Bayou in Westwego right behind the shrimp market. They have been open four weeks now, two with a hint of catastrophe, and then the realization of the catastrophe.
We get menus from this little place every day, so we admire their tenacity. We can’t vouch for the food, but these bell peppers look good to us. That is a real, local, comfort food package - bell peppers stuffed with a little of everything, and corn maque choux served with jalapeno cornbread.
The chef is Keith Springman, formerly the owner of The Ridge Bistro in Harahan, and the owners, Joseph and Michael Spinato have Tula’s Creole Kitchen downtown. They are also swamp tour operators in Westwego. Probably some alligator on that menu.
Just mentioning it if you are on the Westbank.
