The soup of the day on most Fridays at this West End seafood cafe breaks a few rules. Shrimp and tomato are not natural companions. Cream and shrimp works more often, but usually only with something like tasso as a catalyst. But the trio works beautifully in this. The sweetness and acidity of the tomato pull everything together. Even the spice level was right, no further shakes of the Tabasco bottle necessary. A fine example of how you can't always predict what a dish will taste like until you cook and then eat it.
