Crawfish Assistance. Oysters. Baby Goat. Taxes.

The guys who installed the new roof on our house got their truck stuck in our lawn not once but twice. They left deep trenches all over the place that, we were told, would cost a thousand dollars to fill. We were so over the top with the expense of the roof that such an expenditure wasn't tenable to my way of thinking.

But I do have to get those holes at least semi-filled before grass-cutting season begins. I have received assistance from two unlikely sources. First, the heavy rains in the past few months eroded the upthrust mud into the holes. The rain also triggered the Cool Water Ranch's many resident crawfish to build many large mud chimneys. I have been scooping these up and moving them into the holes. I've already filled the three biggest ones with fill muscled up by the mudbugs. What a miracle!

Chimes's Grilled Oysters

Lunch at the Chimes, in the company of the Marys and ML's boyfriend. They ate salads and cheese fries (I've given up trying to get these kids to eat real food). For me, a cup of crab and corn bisque, followed by a dozen grilled oysters. These were inspired by Drago's, of course, but they are more distinctive and better than most. The sauce is not merely butter and herbs, but a kind of light brown sauce that resembles the broth of a seafood gumbo.

Then back to the taxes. Many weekends of toil remain on that project.
