Wedding Aftermath.

Mary Ann's brother Lee gave a brunch for his just-married daughter and the immediate families. Lee is an architect, and recently renovated his longtime house Uptown. He has made a tremendous improvement in the house as I remember it. Mary Ann thinks it's brilliantly done. The kitchen interested me: it is connected to the dining room not only by a hallway but by a butler's pantry, making food service a breeze.

The food was interesting. It came from a well-known chef who does catering on the side. The grillades and grits were delicious. Nothing else was. Maybe I shouldn't say that about a day-after-wedding brunch, but I don't fault the hosts. I'm sure they expected great things from this chef. But stale bread on finger sandwiches? Grits with a broken cream matrix? Shame on him.

Jude's idea for the best way to spend the afternoon was for the whole family to see the new Batman movie in an IMAX theater. As a moviemaker himself, he's interested in the nuts and bolts of the production. I was a Batman fan during my early comic-book period (late 1950s), so it had interest for me. But once again I found myself in a deafening environment. And the continuous violence on screen was more than my nerves liked. I was concerned for my blood pressure, really.

I thought I might have dreams about the movie, but I didn't. I did think about it a lot, though. Why did Batman insist on stopping an evil man bent on blowing up Gotham with an H-bomb through the use of fisticuffs alone? I can't say I was happy to see Batman get the crap beat out of him again and again for three hours. I consider Batman a friend. Badly written script, I'd say. Except for the big plot twist, which I suspect no viewer saw coming.

Then I asked myself, "Why are you thinking about this?"
