Taming The Growth. A Hero Reappears.

Having crossed the lake for dinner with Tim & Des made yesterday feel like a Friday, and today like a Saturday. But it's Sunday, and I had a lot to do while Mary Ann had lunch with some friends across the lake. A couple of hours went to filling ruts in the front field, left months ago by the roofers. This job will take many weeks, maybe months.

I got the lawn tractor going--two weeks in a row!--and headed out to cut the Cool Water Ranch's meadow next to the pond. The grass grows in a stunted way out there, but that doesn't keep it from getting two or three feet high by this time of year.

Late in the evening, I was too tired to keep writing, so I surfed the net a bit before bedtime. I found a video, three hours long, of Wally Phillips doing his radio show. For twenty years from the 1960s into the 1980s, Wally was the morning man on WGN Radio in Chicago. Every time I went to Chicago, one of the main attractions for me was listening to this guy's program. Without getting into details that would be appreciated only by someone else in radio, it's hard to explain why. Suffice it to say that Wally was the best radio talk show host in the history of the medium. In his prime, he had a million and a half people listening to him every morning--on a local (if very powerful) station, yet. Just watching this video got me fired up, and thinking of new ways to do my own show. And that hasn't happened to me in awhile.
