Sort Of Persian.
After all the eating and running around yesterday, we took it easy today. I began the day by baking a batch of biscuits. Ate two of them, one more than I should. Mary Ann has begun eating my biscuits, too. She says it's to keep her from eating chocolate for breakfast, something she has done as long as I've known here. Dish of chocolate chips, glass of milk. This is MA's petit dejeuner.
A friend of a friend is leaving the country shortly, and we went to his host's house for a party. The friend is Iranian, and he offered to create a buffet of Persian dishes. Which are a lot like Middle Eastern food, but distinctive in some ways, too. A lot of rice, a lot of pasta, both of which stuck to the bottom of the pan, where it became crispy and light brown. This is a much-liked style of cooking in some lands. They do it Spain, too, when they make paella. The slightly crisp rice at the bottom adds an essence of flavor. I wonder what can be done along these lines with red beans or jambalaya.
When we returned home, I mowed the front acre. To my astonishment, the lawn tractor started up right away. I guess using it every week is the trick.
