Like everything else, Mardi Gras is looking different this year. What better time to break out of your king cake routine? These 10 vendors are all featuring new varieties, king cake-inspired pastries, or even newcomers to the king cake scene all together. Here’s our list to help you console yourself with king cake.
Brennan’s + Ralph’s On The Park
The New Orleans Classic puts their mark on this New Orleans classic. They’ve put out three versions of the Mardi Gras treat this year, available for delivery via D’Livery Nola, pick-up at Ralph’s On The Park, or nationwide shipping by ordering here. Options include a Brennan’s Pink Strawberry Cream Cheese ($24), Chocolate Black and Gold ($24), and Traditional ($20).
Galatoire’s
Galatoire’s has joined in on the tradition this year with their version of the classic king cake, available for pickup with pre-order only through Resy, of all places. Each cake is $40 for 16-18 servings. Click here to reserve your pick up date.
GW Fins
GW Fins has put a twist (literally) on the traditional king cake with their Praline Stuffed Soft Pretzel King Cakes. The pastries are smaller single servings and are being sold individually as a dine-in dessert or for pick up by the half dozen for $30. Bratz Y’all
Bratz Y’all joins the party this year with their signature Bavarian flair. They’re offering a giant housemade pretzel filled with Bavarian cream and glazed with butter and sugar. Pick them up at the restaurant, or pre-order as many as you’d like at 301-3222 or info@bratzyall.com.
Shaya
Shaya is sharing the tradition in style with a beautiful Cinnamon Babka King Cake, topped with Salted Caramel Streusel. The cakes serve 8-10 for $36 and are available for pickup with pre-order only. Click here to order yours in advance.
Bittersweet Confections
Bittersweet Confections has an eye out for the chocolate lovers this year. They’ve chocolatified the traditional king cake with a classic brioche studded with chocolate chips, then filled with chocolate mousse, glazed with ganache, and topped with handmade chocolate truffles. Pick up one of these $45 cakes at their Magazine store or call 523-2626 to order.
Gris Gris
Prefer to drink your calories? Fair enough. Gris Gris’s got King Cake Daiquiris made with Deep Eddy Vodka, Evangeline Praline Liquor, dairy-free vanilla soft serve, cinnamon and seasonal spices. 16 oz. single servings are $9 or $25 for a flight of all three colors. Half gallons are available for take home as well, for $30 each or $75 for a half gallon of each color. Call the restaurant at 272-0241to pre-order.
Station 6
If you’re not looking to eat an entire King Cake yourself, get into the Mardi Gras spirit for dessert at Station 6. Now on their menu is this number, a Pâté à Choux ring filled with King Cake gelato by Piccolo Gelateria and topped with Amaretto icing.
Gracious Bakery
Gracious Bakery has gone traditional-traditional with their Galettes Des Rois, made with house-made puff pastry, filled with almond frangipane, and glazed with apricot jam. Pick these up at any Gracious location, and the King Cake Hub. (Their version of the classic New Orleans style king cake is also available at all locations and local Whole Foods stores. They’ve got chocolate, almond, and Bananas Foster versions.)
King Cake Hub
This is the third season for the King Cake Hub, a pretty brilliant idea to have your cake and eat them all. At a single location, get access to over 60 varieties of king cakes from several bakeries across the city. This year they’re stationed at The Broad Theatre at 636 N Broad, but you can learn more about order and see a list of vendors here.
