Dodging Thunderstorms. Bosco's.

I didn't get home from Antoine's last night until almost midnight, so I slept a little late this morning. This put me enough behind in my daily writing assignments. And then a line of heavy thunderstorms came through in the hour before I had to leave for town. I chucked that plan and did the show from home.

This worked out well, because tomorrow morning in the pre-dawn Mary Leigh will fly to Washington, D.C. for a week and a half with her cousins who live there. This trip has added possibilities in that a young man she knows from Tulane lives in the D.C. area. I am not permitted to say any more about this, and even that may be too much.

Eggplant casserole.

The Marys and I went to dinner at the newer of the two Bosco's, in the Terra Bella planned community south of Covington. I thought I'd eaten everything Bosco's had to offer (it's one of our family's favorite places). But tonight I found an eggplant casserole that I didn't remember. I will definitely have it again. The eggplant is baked with bread crumbs, shrimp, crabmeat, herbs, and maybe a little too much mozzarella cheese over the top. Still, we all loved it, although ML objected to the seafood flavor. (Which is what I found to be the dish's finest attribute.)

Redfish fra diavolo.

My entree was of my own devising. Panneed redfish was the special, usually served with artichokes, mushrooms, and shrimp--a lot like that red snapper I cooked on Monday. I asked if they could do it with the fra diavolo sauce Bosco's serves with shrimp. This didn't quite make the grade, with to much cream in the mostly-red sauce. The pepper component was not at diavolo (devil) levels, either. Although I shoulder the blame for this, I once again note that the sauces here have not been as god as at the original Mandeville Bosco's. I will probably now be informed by Tony Bosco that he makes the sauces for both locations, and I am fooling myself. It's possible, I suppose. Wouldn't be the first time.
