Four Little "Meals." A Tropical Storm? From Where?

The light rain and clouds of the past couple of days were triggered by a tropical wave stretched across the whole Gulf of Mexico. Now we learn that an actual storm is likely to form in the middle of that, and very likely head our way. Let the freakout begin! I'll be right in the middle of it.

I was running late on my work, so I did the radio show from home. I didn't feel like driving in the rain anyway. (Has anyone ever noted that a driving rain is actually not good weather for driving?) Besides all that, I have been slipping in my weight-loss program. Today would be a good day to limit myself to scavenging. Four little "meals": three slices of assorted toast and one slice of cheese pizza. I'm thinking that one day a week of eating only enough to stave off hunger a few times during the day would keep my appetite from expanding. As it will.

On a related note, I read in one of the zillion internet newsletters that come my way that Facebook has installed standing desks for its employees. Some of them were complaining about being stuck too much of the time with their butts in chairs. One asked whether he could have a desk where he could work standing up. The company went for it, and soon lots of other employees wanted the same workstation.

The article then had doctors weigh in on the matter. Seems that standing instead of sitting raises your energy level, burns off a lot more calories, and it tones up muscles.

We have known this in radio for a long time. Most music stations have their disk jockeys working from a standing position, and talk shows with young hosts also have done this. It seems that listeners can tell the difference subliminally, and like the standing voices better.

I think I'm going to set up a standing workstation for myself this weekend. [In fact, I did, and I'm writing these words from a standing position, as I have for the past several days' worth of diary entries. I like it! I think it may even be helping my mostly-healed but still occasionally achy ankle.]
