Tuesday, May 17, 2011. Forty-Three On Five-Seventeen? Bosco's And Muffuletta.

The front that brought the first rain in weeks came through a couple of days ago, followed by a brilliant day and noticeably lower temperatures. But I wouldn't have guessed that this would be a forty-three-degree morning. In the middle of May? I keep putting away my little space heater, thinking surely I won't need it again until fall, and then having to drag it out and plug it in again. (I can't bring myself to turn the central heater on.)

Soft-shellcrabs at Bosco's.

I neglected to report in last Friday's entry that the Marys and I went to lunch at Bosco's. The usual overfeed: six or seven panneed chicken cutlets with penne Alfredo for Mary Leigh, and a platter of two soft-shell crabs with a lot of crabmeat on top and spaghetti bordelaise on the side. Mary Ann took one of my crabs after eating an Italian salad. In other words, a lot of food to pack to take home.

And on top of all that, half a muffuletta. The muffuletta at Bosco's is not only the best in the whole area, but it's so overloaded that you could get a second loaf of bread and transfer half the meat and cheeses onto it and have a second generous sandwich.

It was time to get to work on that muffuletta today. I ate half of a quarter of it, and it was still too much. Aside from my morning toast, I needed to eat nothing else the rest of the day.

All I did was work, to the point of eyestrain. I would have stopped to watch a movie with the Marys. Their kind of movies put me to sleep, so they're very relaxing. But the girls were busy. Mary Leigh is flying to Los Angeles tomorrow to spend a few days hanging out with Jude. Mary Ann would love to go with her, but few prospects make her happier than the thought of our two young-adult children naturally relating as the best of friends.

My semi-helpless state keeps MA home, too. But she says that as soon as I can walk just a little bit, she's outta here and over there.
