Today is Valentine's Day. The bad news is that restaurants will be full tonight. Especially the romantic ones. It's a frustrating evening for a lot of those restaurants, because almost every table on this evening will host only two people each, cutting the capacity of the restaurant almost in half. If you're a guy who hasn't made reservations yet, you will have to up the ante on the flowers and the chocolates to make up for that. Or you can do a lot of calling around. Here are some matters to keep in mind: 1. Our website has a list of the 100 Most Romantic Restaurants in town, with all pertinent other information. Go to our Valentine's Day page for that. You'll also find some ruminations on Valentine's Day, with some pitfalls to avoid and nice touches to employ. 2. Most nice restaurants (and many neighborhood places, too) will be open for dinner tonight. So there's no shortage of venues. It's just that some will not be the kind of place you'd think of for a night like this. Again, look over our 100 Most Romantic list. 3. Don't go anywhere without a reservation, unless they don't accept them and your date doesn't mind having an extended cocktail hour before sitting down for dinner. 4. There's always staying home and cooking something wonderful and opening a great Champagne.
