Stuck Behind Clouds. New Bosco's.
The high point of the day was a nice dinner per due at the new Bosco's in the Terra Bella development on the outskirts of Covington. It's a very pretty restaurant, with large windows and light colors. A much more appealing space than the Bosco's in Mandeville. Which, however, has better food, even though they seem to be following the recipes closely. For example, the panneed chicken was a little too thin and cooked a little too long, rendering it dry. Issues like this can be attributed to the newness of the Terra Bella location. We are here too soon.
I started with escargots in the usual garlic butter, but with one twist I like: it's full of chopped fresh basil, enough of it to thicken the sauce. Then we both had the excellent house salad, with a light, lemony vinaigrette that almost seems as if it isn't there are first, but pleases you utterly by halfway through. Angelo Brocato's spumone for dessert. Nice supper.
Mary Ann's launched with a bowl of seafood gumbo. She didn't notice the excess of salt that I did; I didn't notice the over-the-top pepper that disturbed her. But we ate it all. Then she went after the Italian-style baked oysters. Her oyster kick continues, and she save not one for me. They serve this as an appetizer, but it's really big enough for an entree. I let her take some of the big plate of spaghetti marinara that came with the panneed chicken (below). It still left me with more than I could finish. Nobody leaves Bosco's hungry.
Meanwhile, an orange glow shone through the rainclouds in the west while lightning moved horizontally through the ones in the east. Hallmarks of the end of a stormy day.
It was one of those days, I guess. Mary Ann's computer caught a virus this morning. I routed it in time to keep it from settling in, and the virus infected only about an hour of my morning. The storms that began overnight shut down the Causeway just as, en route to the radio station, I approached the tollgates. I turned around and went home. Later in the day, a computer glitch on my desk kept getting worse with each stratagem to fix it. (It was brought on by a software program designed to streamline one's computer.) That one cost me about two hours and a throbbing headache. The gloomy skies all day added less than nothing.
I realize this all qualifies as whining.
