[title type="h5"]Saturday, January 18, 2014.[/title] The temperature swung thirty-three degrees from high to low--the latter bottoming out at twenty-five. And January is only a little more than halfway over. Good thing Mardi Gras is late this year. The Saints' loss last week meant that I will be on the radio most Saturdays--at least until LSU basketball and baseball heat up. So there I was today, the full three hours. The current affair at the Cool Water Ranch is a debate over when either Mary Ann or I will go to Los Angeles to hang out with Jude. MA has been leaning on me so hard to make the trip that I sat down after the radio show and worked out an itinerary that would have me taking the Sunset Limited--my favorite American train--to L.A. right after Mardi Gras. MA was delighted by this, and said that as much as she dislikes train travel, she would join me. That's good, because two people in a sleeping compartment costs only slightly more than it does for one. (They have two beds.) But before we could nail this down, Jude called to say that he had another movie project on his docket for that week. He doesn't know when he would be available. So much for that plan. My favorite part of this is that it takes the monkey off my back. Rounding out today's ennui was supper at Zea. Usual eats. The place was busier than we've seen it in years. We got the last table, and by the time we were on the way out a long waiting list had formed. Easy to understand why: with football over for the year, people are getting back to more important and greater pleasures.
