Thursday, November 6 at 6:30 p.m., a nice event involving eight local chefs fills the historic Board of Trade Plaza in the CBD. It's a fundraiser for CASA, an organization whose name Court Appointed Special Advocates sounds forbidding. But its activities are of immeasurable aid for children who have been abused and neglected by their parents--if the parents are present at all. CASA's volunteers step into this breach to give these unfortunate kids a chance to get the permanent homes and love they deserve. [caption id="attachment_45207" align="alignnone" width="480"] What's Cooking At CASA last year, with K-Paul's Chef Paul Miller.[/caption] The highlight of the evening is my friend Chef Susan Spicer, who will present a cooking class during the patron party. That's followed by a cocktail-making competition, then a well-fed party with live music, live and silent auctions of all sort of luxuries (I have seen these go off at fantastically low bids) and more food and beverages until 10 p.m. The venue is that handsome outdoor-indoor space just off Magazine Street between Gravier and Natchez Streets. And here are the providers of the comestibles: [title type="h5"] Susan Spicer's Mondo Restaurant Acme Oyster House Lucy's Retired Surfers Bar & Rest Praline Connection Pigeon Caterers Bourbon Heat Maurice's French Pastries[/title] The price is $52 for the main event, or $104 if you'd like to attend the patron party. Cocktail attire is requested, the better to make the photos that will inevitably be in the newspaper look good. Go here to buy tickets. More information about CASA.
