Who Dat Shrimp @ Desi Vega's
When the guys who own Mr. John's Steakhouse opened a second location on Lafayette Square, they didn't change the menu a lot for the new place. But at least one great new dish appeared there. Who Dat Shrimp are big peeled (except for the tailfins, of course), broiled shrimp topped with a bright orange rouille. Underneath is a sweet-heat Thai-style pepper sauce. This all comes together in a big burst of flavor which, amazingly, doesn't wipe the shrimp flavor out. Must be because they're fresh Louisiana shrimp. It's an appetizer. I don't think your taste buds will hold out for an entree of this things.
