Restaurant Review

Anecdotes & Analysis

The Central Grocery is not the astounding emporium of highly ethnic Italian groceries that it once was. Much of its space is now given over to the manufacture and serving of the muffuletta sandwich, which they (among many others) claim to have invented, and for which they are famous. While the olive salad and the bread are still definitive, the other elements of the sandwich are not hardly the best available, and the end product is good but no longer definitive. The market has spoken: the typical customer is a visitor, not an Italian Orleanian.
