Pat O'Brien's is New Orleans' most famous bar, and certainly its biggest. A classic French Quarter courtyard, featuring the bizarre flaming fountain, is surrounded by many comfortable venues for having a drink. The famous Hurricane (four ounces of rum mixed with something like Kool-Aid in a giant glass shaped like a storm lantern) is not as good as its reputation, but have one anyway. In 1996, Pat O's added food service for the first time in its long history. The features are steaks and burgers, with a short list of Creole platters like crawfish etouffee and shrimp Creole. Almost everything goes on in the patio, which can get crushingly full when there's anything going on in town.
