This Mandeville Gem Has A Deal For You

It was an exceptionally good show with a lot of calls. Maybe it was the subject matter. People love to reminisce. MA brought it up when we talked about stopping in to the Tower of Pizza last night in Metairie on the way home from a press event. She called this place “a blast from the past,” and soon the phones were loaded with people with their own recollections of this and other places like it. Cathay Inn got a mention or two, and we wound up talking about Mosca’s for a bit.

We left the house immediately after the show to head to Pardo’s until I remembered Cafe Lynn. It’s a favorite of mine, but MA has only recently warmed to it. Her atmosphere thing prevents her from appreciating this place the way she ought to. The food is terrific, but she has only lately begun to overlook what she calls the Eighties decor here. The place is spotless, the fabrics lavish, just not her thing. She gives far too much weight to considerations like this, but has come around to agree that the food here is worth it.

Tonight we discovered what is definitely one of the best summer specials out there. A two course meal with a glass of house red or house white for $19.99. The menu is limited and remains the same, but the food is of such quality that you can’t go wrong, so try them all. It won’t be long before you’ll want to veer off and try some of the other things on the menu, which are also very affordably priced.

The pre-fixe is available all the time If the doors are open, you can get it. First course is a very small but adequate green salad,  grated carrot scattered on top, with a seemingly endless choices of dressings. This is followed by a choice of one of these three:

Shrimp and Crab Risotto

Beef Tournedos with roasted potatoes and green beans

Veal Parmesan with choice of linguini or roasted vegetables.

Dessert is not included

Since this restaurant is French Creole , escargot is on the menu. I had an order of that, and while it was not the best version I have had, I enjoyed it. MA got one of her favorites, crab claws, and she considers Cafe Lynn’s version among the best. She loves the garlicky butter sauce here so much she asked for a little side of pasta and made her own Bordelaise.

The addition of Mary Ann to the Cafe Lynn fan base is an exciting new development for me. I love this place, and I’m glad it is now in the regular mix. We need to drive to Mandeville more often.
