Monday Means Red Beans. And Carl's Fried Chicken.

Monday has always been red beans and rice day in New Orleans. But lately, a new tradition has developed, and it too involves red beans and rice. But also much more.

Every Monday night the Fountain Lounge at The Roosevelt Hotel hosts Carl’s Fried Chicken night. And every Monday around 3 pm Carl can be seen in the lobby passing out samples of his delicious fried chicken.

The fried chicken dinner is something that Carl Cushenberry has perfected in the four decades he has been making it for the staff at the hotel. In honor of the hotel’s 125th anniversary, the Fountain Lounge offers to everyone the famous fried chicken of Chef Carl Monday only for an anniversary-year price of $18.93.

This chicken is deliciously crispy and greaseless, and really spicy. The red beans are a little too creamy for our taste, but they have a good flavor. The coleslaw is also a little spicy, and this is balanced out with a biscuit with a honey drizzle. The meal is served family-style and includes red beans and rice and coleslaw, as well as a biscuit. Regional beers are available for purchase.

This is an event that should not be missed. It is very popular with locals. Reservations are not required but necessary to avoid a wait.
