The Little Gem Saloon is the rebirth of one of the homes of early jazz. On South Rampart Street--where all the first-generation greats played, from Buddy Bolden and Louis Armstrong on down. During the past six months or so, the kitchen has found itself and us putting out excellent food. Meanwhile, there's live music every evening--no cover charge in the dining room, yet. The Little Gem is running a three-course Coolinary menu through the end of August. Like most restaurants, it will probably continue that menu another couple of weeks afterwards. Here it is:

House Salad
Bibb lettuce, endive, celeriac, fines herbes, cane vinaigrette

Iceberg Wedge Salad
