Creamed Spinach With Crabmeat?

Keith Young’s is a place I rarely go but it was a favorite for a very long time. Recently some friends wanted to meet there for Happy Hour, another favorite pastime from a while back. They arrived earlier than I did and had ordered two things from the Happy Hour menu. One was the creamed spinach with crabmeat, and the other was Almond Crusted Shrimp. I have often said that the best creamed spinach in town is at Keith Young’s. I was happy that no changes were made to this great version of the popular steakhouse side after Keith’s departure from his eponymous restaurant.

The addition of crabmeat a few years before Keith sold it was genius. It’s perfect for Lenten season. When the enormous portion of this marvelous side arrived, it was even better than it was before. There were lots more crostini, and they were more interesting than they had previously been. This is such a satisfying app made even more so by the improved crostini. I think that this may be my favorite of three great Lenten dishes here. Besides the creamed spinach with crabmeat, a special baked potato with shrimp and crabmeat in a luscious cream sauce wouldn’t leave anyone wanting. There is also a pile of crispy catfish that can dethrone any other fried catfish in town. Fried seafood perfection. It comes with a seafood stuffed bell pepper and hush puppies.

Keith’s does seafood with the same kind of excellence apparent in their steak offerings. But this creamed spinach with crabmeat is a great app to share with friends on a Friday evening in Lent.
