A Good Thai Lunch. Competing With Hockey.
Mary Leigh is off to the Maryland suburbs of Washington, D.C. this afternoon. She and her cousin Hillary are visiting Mary Ann's sister's kids for a week. A sort of cousin fest. Almost like a summer camp. The Maryland cousins have a vacation home on the Eastern Shore. It's like an upscale version of Little Woods, but with Chesapeake Bay instead of Lake Pontchartrain. Same kinds of crabs and oysters in each, although I doubt any crabbing or oystering will go on.
Mary Leigh thought she and I should have lunch together at the Acme or something. But she sprang that on me too late in the morning, and I couldn't escape the tentacles holding me fast to my desk.
Mary Ann fetched a Thai lunch from Thai Spice for me before taking ML to the airport. She warned me she wouldn't be back until after my bedtime--she's going to stay on the South Shore to watch the Stanley Cup. Hockey? The things these girls come up with instead of spending time with me!
I can't complain, though. The lunch was good: Panang curry with chicken, hot and sour soup, a spring roll. Nice and spicy. And light.
Something funny happened after the radio show and a nap. I put my braces-equipped shoes on, and instead of pulling the walker out of its parking space next to the bed, I grabbed the cane I asked the girls to buy for me over the weekend.
For the rest of the evening, I walked all around the house, getting the hang of the cane. I tried this two days ago, but a discomfort chased me back to my room halfway across the living room. I don't want to undo three months of healing. But today? What a difference in just a few days!
