Today is also National Gumbo Day, and Poydras & Peters in the Loew’s Hotel wants to celebrate with a gumbo special. Today only, a heaping bowl of gumbo and a beer is just $10. It will be the new fall gumbo available throughout the season. But this is no ordinary gumbo. Unlike seafood gumbos, which tend to be lighter because of the summer heat, fall gumbos are heavier to hold up to the cooler weather. This gumbo includes house-smoked chicken, smoked duck, duck confit, and andouille from Creole Country. The smoked meats are smoked over pecan wood to add a nuttier flavor, and the gumbo is finished with Abita Amber and Crystal Hot Sauce to give it extra richness.
Even though it’s available for the season, today it comes with a beer, and the bar is a great place to watch football.
